Spencer Hospice Foundation is a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of terminally ill patients and their families, and providing education in end-of-life care. Established through a bequest given by Mr. Marlyn Spencer, a hospice patient diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, it was his final wish that the gift of hospice be strengthened by helping others like himself, who are isolated and in need.
In fulfilling Mr. Spencer’s wish, the Spencer Hospice Foundation assists hospice patients in need. Such needs may include providing a portable air-conditioning unit, supplying a bag of groceries or building a temporary wheel chair ramp. Through this Helping Hands Assistance program, the goal is to fulfill small needs that make a big difference in enhancing the patients’ quality of life. We also have a program called Making the Holidays Brighter, where we grant items such as a Thanksgiving dinner, a Christmas tree, toys for children in the home or a special holiday wish for patients in need.
Beyond that, the Spencer Hospice Foundation aims to promote a better understanding of the hospice philosophy by allocating funding for public awareness and education in end-of-life care. The Spencer Hospice Foundation frequently facilitates speaking engagements and is available to provide in-services on hospice care throughout the community.
