Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is working to eliminate hunger in Orange County. We solicit and coordinate donations, grants, fund raising, food drives, food rescue, gleaning and volunteers to supply food, education and advocacy through non-profit partners and direct feeding programs. We constantly seek innovative and cost-effective ways to reach more people. We operate a series of programs to help stock individual organizations pantries. Other than shopping at the Food Bank, a few of our programs are Brown Bag, in which we supplement seniors with low fixed incomes with two extra bags of groceries each month. We operate a Kids Cafe program that is housed at various after school programs throughout Orange County, in which more than 50% of the students receive a free or reduced lunch through their school. Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County also operates a food rescue program that links eligible member charities with surplus prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be thrown away. Food Rescue arranges for the donation of prepared food from restaurants, caterers, hotels, trade shows and amusement parks, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers’ markets. Second Harvest also provides and feasible and hassle-free way to conduct a food pass out through a program called Mobile Pantry Program. It is a distribution vehicle that will park in a predetermined location with about 5,000 pounds of food for two hours.
